I’m registered as a blood donor — can I also become a stem cell donor (or vice versa)?

Yes, definitely! You can be both a blood donor at Sanquin and a stem cell donor at Matchis. If Matchis contacts you as a potential match and reserves you for a specific patient, we ask that you refrain from donating blood during this period. This helps ensure your body is optimally prepared for a stem cell donation.

After donating your stem cells, we recommend that you wait at least six months before donating blood again, to allow your blood values to fully recover. If you are not selected to donate stem cells for this patient and your reservation expires, you may resume donating blood immediately.
